By your side from discovery to application

A directory stops at the data. Score every school against one child's profile, shortlist the ones worth a tour, keep your notes and voice memos beside them, and share the list with the other parent. Every data point shows its source and a confidence label, and we never publish anonymous "best school" lists.

Ranked for your child, with your chances

Fill out one profile and every school from kindergarten up is scored against your family's priorities, with a deliberately conservative read on your admissions chances.

Compare schools side by side

Test scores, programs, sports, start times, graduation rates and more: narrow the whole list down to the schools that fit. Once you have a profile, your priorities decide which columns you see.

Commute time as a search criterion

Sort the whole list by transit time from your home, then see the routed door to door minutes on any school's page. Getting there matters as much as what happens inside.

Your own ranked lists and notes

Build your list, rank it your way, and keep notes on every school. Premium adds photos and transcribed voice memos.

Tours and open houses, on your calendar

Every tour and open house on the city's admissions calendar, in one place. Save the ones you want and subscribe once to see them in your own calendar app.

Share with your spouse

Or any other parent working on the same child's list. They see the same schools, notes and matches, and you choose whether they can edit.

What is Public School Match?
Public School Match is a free research and planning tool for NYC public-school families, covering 2-K through high school in all five boroughs. It brings school, admissions, academic, demographic, survey, program and spending data into one profile per school. Fill out one child profile and every school from kindergarten up is automatically scored and ranked against your family's priorities, each with a deliberately conservative admissions outlook, so you can see fit and admissions difficulty next to the underlying data.
What information does Public School Match show for each school?
Test results and outcomes, average class size, attendance and suspension rates, teacher experience, demographics, sports, the full NYC School Survey broken out topic by topic and question by question, programs and courses, admissions methods with past seat and applicant counts and a priority ladder showing how deep offers went, school-level spending, and door-to-door commute time from your home. Every profile lists the sources its data comes from. See the full list
How is Public School Match different from MySchools?
MySchools is the official NYC Public Schools system for browsing schools, submitting applications, receiving offers and managing waitlists. Public School Match is built for the research that comes before the application: scoring and ranking every school for your child, comparing schools side by side, understanding admissions, checking commute times, and organizing your search. When it is time to apply, you still submit through MySchools.
Does Public School Match rank NYC schools?
Not with a universal "best schools" list. Public School Match ranks schools for your child, not for everyone. Your ranking comes from the priorities you choose, so a school at the top of one family's list may sit in the middle of another's.
Is Public School Match free?
Yes. Browsing schools, viewing full profiles, personalized matching and ranking, admissions outlook, commute times and saved lists are all free. Premium is $5 a month or $20 a year and adds AI assistance and richer notes.
Is Public School Match part of NYC Public Schools?
No. Public School Match is an independent service and is not operated by, endorsed by, or affiliated with NYC Public Schools or the New York City Department of Education. It uses publicly available government data, and every profile lists the sources its data comes from.
